Domestic / Home Package Insurance

Comprehensive Insurance Solutions for Peace of Mind

Your home is likely your most valuable asset — yet most Kenyan homeowners and tenants have no insurance protection against the events most likely to affect them. Domestic / Home Package insurance is a comprehensive, bundled policy that combines up to seven sections of cover under a single affordable premium, available to both homeowners and tenants across Kenya.

What it covers:

Section A — Buildings Cover: Protects the physical structure of your home — walls, roof, floors, gates, fences, garage, carports, and outbuildings — against fire and lightning, explosion, earthquake and volcanic eruption, storms, floods, burst pipes and overflowing water tanks, subsidence and landslip, riot and malicious damage, and impact from aircraft or vehicles. Pays to repair or fully rebuild your home if it is destroyed or damaged by an insured peril.

Section B — Household Contents: Covers furniture, household goods, electrical appliances (fridges, cookers, TVs, washing machines), clothing, kitchen equipment, and personal effects against fire, burglary with forcible entry, storm and flood damage, and burst pipes. Note: contents cover ceases if the property is left unoccupied for more than 7 consecutive days — notify your insurer before extended absence.

Section C — All Risks (Specified Valuables): Covers portable and high-value specified items — jewellery, watches, laptops, mobile phones, cameras, sports equipment, and other valuables — against all risks including accidental damage, theft from your person, and loss in transit or while travelling, on a worldwide basis.

Section D — Domestic Employees (WIBA Cover): Covers your house help, gardener, watchman, and other domestic workers for work-related injury or death as required under Kenya’s Work Injury Benefits Act — including medical expenses, temporary and permanent disability compensation, death benefit, and funeral expenses. This component is effectively mandatory for any employer of domestic staff under Kenyan law.

Section E — Occupier’s / Owner’s Liability: Protects you against legal liability if a visitor, guest, or third party is accidentally injured or has their property damaged while on your residential premises due to your negligence as occupier or owner — covering legal defence costs and compensation awarded.

Section F — Temporary Accommodation: Pays reasonable hotel or rental costs for you and your family if your home becomes uninhabitable due to an insured event such as fire or flooding — while repairs are being carried out.

Optional extensions include: Riot, strike, and civil commotion cover; terrorism and political violence cover; personal accident benefit for family members; and emergency home assistance (plumber, electrician call-out).

What it does NOT cover: Mechanical or electrical breakdown, wear and tear, wilful damage, unoccupied property beyond 7 days (without notification), theft without evidence of forcible entry, cash and financial documents, and motor vehicles.

Available to homeowners, tenants, and landlords of furnished rental properties (including short-term BnB operators). The premium is very affordable relative to the value protected — replacing a sofa set, fridge, television, and clothing after a burglary alone can cost KES 200,000–500,000 or more. Do not wait until after the event to discover you were uninsured.
